Artist As Brand with Greg Spalenka

Book Cover Illustration with Dan Dos Santos
Fri-Sun, July 26-28. $495.

In this 3 day workshop, Dan dos Santos will go over his process, specifically as it pertains to cover work. Students will work alongside the artist, as they execute their own paintings. Topics covered will include: composition, photo reference, and oil painting techniques. Even though a large portion of the class will be geared specifically towards oil painting techniques, the lessons and methods that Dan will go over can be applied to any media, including digital. Limit: 15 students.

Story and Pictures with Cory Godbey & Justin Gerard, Fri-Sun, August 16-18. $500.

In this dual-faculty workshop, Justin and Cory will cover their illustration processes and approaches to character-driven art. Students will work alongside the instructors to conceptualize and design their own character, craft their visual story and put it all together into a single image. The class will be heavily geared toward drawing and painting traditionally, but Justin and Cory will also demonstrate how they use digital tools to enhance their work (digital artists welcome!).  Limit: 23 students.

Once Upon a Time: Character & Creature Design in Faery with Jean-Baptiste Monge
Fri-Sun, Sept. 27-29. $495. 

Jean-Baptiste Monge is known for his engaging creatures, chock-full of strong, unique character. In this workshop he will share his process for designing faery denizens both traditionally and digitally. Focusing on character development so distinctive that you can predict their personality and behavior at a glance. Limit: 12 students.

Plan Great Images, From the Ground Up 
with Greg Manchess, Fri-Sun, Nov 8-10. $550.


This workshop concentrates on building compelling images with the human figure as the focal point. Using a vertical format, such as a book cover, participants will start with initial thumbnails and work toward realizing the final sketch. We will focus on the structural elements of effective composition, value, dimensional depth and emotional content. Limit: 12 students.
